GREAT FALLS, Montana – The City of Great Falls is currently asking for comments and feedback on the Proposed Citizen Participation Plan. Each year the City of Great Falls receives Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The CDBG program provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Since its establishment in 1974, the CDBG program is one of the longest continuously run programs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis to local governments and states. CDBG is an important tool, that helps local governments tackle serious challenges facing their communities.

In order for the City of Great Falls to continue to receive CDBG and HOME Investment Partnership Program federal grant funds, the City must prepare a Citizen Participation Plan as a component of the Consolidated Plan.  This Plan provides for and encourages citizen participation, emphasizing the involvement of low and very low income residents. The Plan ensures that citizens have adequate, timely notification of all hearings and the availability of a report detailing the proposed and actual use of Department of Housing & Urban Development funds.

The Proposed Citizen Participation Plan is available for viewing at the Great Falls Public Library, the City of Great Falls web page and City CDBG/HOME and Neighborhood Council Office, Civic Center, Room 4, during regular business hours. The 15 day comment period began on November 26, 2012, and ends on December 10, 2012.

Any interested agencies, groups, or persons may submit comments pertaining to the Proposed Citizen Participation Plan to Melanie Lattin, City of Great Falls Planning & Community Development Department, P.O. Box 5021, Great Falls, MT  59403-5021. For further information, please call 455-8513.
