    The City of Great Falls has a contract with Classic Protective Coatings, Inc, to install structural improvements, sandblast the interior and exterior of the water tower, and to apply a new coating system over the interior and exterior of the tower.  It is anticipated that the water tower will be out of service between July 20 and November 7, 2015 while the work is being completed.

    All children are invited to take part in the 81st Annual Pet & Doll Parade on Thursday, July 23 at 7 pm.; and pets of course are welcome.   This event is FREE to children of all ages.   This year’s theme is “Imaginations Soar”.  Registration is ongoing at the Park & Recreation Office, 1700 River Drive North, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday.

    The Mansfield Box Office will offer extended Summer Hours this week due to the number of events available for purchase this weekend. In addition to their normal summer hours (Monday – Wednesday, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), the Box Office will also be open on Thursday, July 16, and Friday, July 17, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in person or over the phone at 406-455-8514 during these hours.

    The City Commission may be reconsidering a land development action related to the Final Plat and Improvement Agreement for the Thaniel Addition Major Subdivision at the upcoming City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, July 21. At the meeting, the City Commission will have an opportunity to rescind previous action on the Thaniel Addition, reopen discussion among the Commissioners and City staff as well as take public comment.

    The 4th of July holiday can be fun and exciting for many of us, it can also be stressful and scary for our pets. Loud noises and flashing lights can cause pets a great deal of anxiety. After the 4th of July holiday many animal shelters and animal control agencies across the country see a spike in stray and lost dogs. The Great Falls Animal Shelter encourages pet owners to keep their pets safe over the holiday. Pets should be left at home during holiday festivities and should always have proper identification on at all times.

    UPDATE - The Shelter float earned 2nd place!  The Great Falls Animal Shelter and the Shelter Sidekicks will have a float in this year’s 4th of July Parade as a way to encourage the adoption of Shelter pets. They are seeking pet owners to join in the fun by either walking alongside the float or on it! The parade is Saturday, July 4, at 11 a.m. in Downtown Great Falls.

    The portion of River’s Edge Trail between Falls Construction and the pedestrian underpass located under Giant Springs Road reopened late Friday afternoon. The section had been closed for repairs to the eroding gravel shoulders along the asphalt trail that had been a safety concern.

    Anaconda Hills Golf Course is now offering Footgolf.  Footgolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. It is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball at a golf facility on shortened holes.  It’s a great activity for families, children and adults.  It is a pleasant change for golfers, and a great training and conditioning tool for soccer players.  But most important, it is fun.

    Great Falls now has three official pickleball courts.  Rocky Mountain Hardscapes spent the past few days painting lines on the tennis courts at Lions Park, creating three official size courts for pickleball.  Local pickleball players have been using the courts the past few summers, but have relied on temporary lines.  The courts are now useable for both tennis and pickleball.

    Bill and Joan-Nell Macfadden have been named winners of the sixth annual Paris Gibson Award.  The Award, established by the Paris Gibson Month Celebration Committee, is given to honor a citizen or citizens of Great Falls who embody the vision and excellence exemplified by the founder of Great Falls, Paris Gibson.  This is the second time a couple has won the Award.

    The water restriction for those residents and businesses located  west and north Missouri River has now ended. The contractor was able to complete Phase 1  on Sunday, which connected the new main to the existing water main at Oddfellows Park and Broadwater Bay. After connecting, the water reservoir was allowed to fill and as of this morning the water reservoir was at 8.75 feet. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation during the water restriction.

    Many families enjoy the 4th of July holiday with firework displays at their own home. While they may be exciting and fun, they can also be dangerous, causing serious burns and injuries. Great Falls Fire Rescue wants to remind those setting off fireworks over the holiday to take the necessary steps and precautions to keep themselves and others safe.  Always be aware of the risks of accidents, personal injury and fires associated with the use of fireworks. Great Falls Fire Rescue has provided residents with safety tips to follow this 4th of July season.
