    Great Falls Fire Rescue would like to notify residents that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of Kiddie disposable plastic fire extinguishers due to a failure to discharge. The recall involves 31 models of Kiddie disposable fire extinguishers with Zytel® black plastic valves. The recalled units were sold at Home Depot, Menards, Wal-Mart and other department, home and hardware stores nationwide and online from August 2013 through November 2014.

    Did you know that microchipping is the only form of pet identification that is permanent?  Microchips can’t be altered or removed and ensure the safe return of your pet in the unfortunate event your pet gets lost, a collar is removed or during an emergency situation. Now through the end of February the Great Falls Animal Shelter is running a microchipping special. Dogs and cats can be microchipped for only$15 (normally the cost is $25)!

    A night of romance, mystery and secrets await at the Great Falls Animal Shelter’s Third Annual Murder Mystery Party! The Shelter Sidekicks are hosting, “A Knight of Murder,” on Saturday, March 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Elks Lodge (500 1st S). The evening includes a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and beverages. A no host bar will also be available. The cost is $30 per character and $55 for those attending as character couples. All proceeds from the evening will go towards the Shelter’s Help Us Grow (HUG) Project, which will help fund the Shelter’s future cattery.

The Great Falls Public Library will be closed on Saturday, February 14, in recognition of the holiday (as a reminder the Library is not open on Mondays). There are no changes to the residential or commercial sanitation collection schedule next week.

    The Great Falls Animal Shelter believes that there is a hero in all of us! Demonstrate your super abilities by rescuing a  shelter pet and helping a family in need.  The Shelter is sponsoring There’s a Hero in All of Us Adoption Event Tuesday, January 20, through Friday, January 31. Shelter pets (6 months and older) can be adopted for half price with the donation of non-perishable food item (human). All donated food will be given to the Community Food Bank.
