    Anaconda Hills Golf Course will host Military Appreciation Days on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11. All active duty, immediate family, and retirees from all branches of the service will be eligible for a 25% discount on green fees, carts, and range balls. Eligible golfers are asked to present their ID card to receive the discounts.

    Neighborhood Council #7 will host a Neighborhood Watch presentation on Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Whittier School gymnasium (305 8th Street N). This presentation will kick off a Neighborhood Watch Program in the area aimed at increasing community involvement and, ultimately, lowering crime in the area. The evening will focus on how residents can build stronger neighborhoods, one block at a time. The event is open to the public and light refreshments, provided by downtown businesses, will be provided.

    The Great Falls Public Library is hosting Civil War 150: Exploring the War & Its Meaning through the Words of Those Who Lived It, a national traveling exhibition, on display May 26 – June 16. Utilizing letters, personal accounts, and images drawn from the Gilder Lehrman Collection, this exhibition traces major events during the Civil War through the eyes of soldiers, presidents, freedmen, and families.

    After serving the City for 35 years, Marty Basta has announced his retirement. Marty started his career with the City of Great Falls in 1979 and for the past six years has been the Park and Recreation Director. Marty’s last day of work will be Friday, May 16, which is also his 60th birthday. The City of Great Falls wishes Marty the best in his retirement and thanks him for his service.

    Park and Recreation received a donation to purchase a pair of Black Swans and a pair of Mute Swans. Both pairs are yearlings and arrived in Great Falls last month. All waterfowl including the new swans will be released into Gibson Pond this Friday at 10:30am.
