Serving on a City board or commission is a great way to become involved in local government. The following City boards and commissions have current openings.

Design Review Board

The City Commission is accepting applications to serve on the Design Review Board.  There is currently one opening to fill the remainder of a three-year term expiring March 31, 2017.

 

The Design Review Board consists of five members appointed by the City Commission.  The Board reviews specified types of development proposals to ensure that the design and aesthetics conform to the review criteria contained in the municipal code.  Members are appointed with an effort to achieve a diversity of expertise, background and interest.  Board meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 3:00 p.m. if needed.  Applicants must reside within the City of Great Falls.  For more information, contact Craig Raymond at 455-8530.

Historic Preservation Advisory Commission

The City Commission is seeking applications for citizens interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission to fill the remainder of a three-year term through April 30, 2017.

The Commission consists of nine members serving three-year terms: four are appointed by the City Commission, four are appointed by the County Commission, and a ninth member with professional architectural expertise is chosen by a simple majority of the other eight members.

The Commission advises Cascade County, the City of Great Falls, and the Business Improvement District.  Applicants should have expertise/qualifications in the following areas: history, planning, archaeology, architecture, architectural history, historic archaeology, or other history preservation-related disciplines such as cultural geography or cultural anthropology. Ownership of property listed on the National Register of Historic Places may also qualify a person to serve on this commission.  Meetings are scheduled the second Wednesday of each month at noon.  For more information, contact Lee Nellis at 455-8432.

Board of Adjustment/Appeals

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Board of Adjustment/Appeals to fill the remainder of a three-year term through September 30, 2016.

The Board hears and decides appeals regarding zoning, housing, and building codes and ordinances; hears and decides requests for variances from standards set forth in zoning ordinances; hears and decides all other matters referred to the Board regarding zoning, housing, and building ordinances.

Members must be residents of the City of Great Falls, and must be qualified by experience or training in construction matters. Candidates with architecture or design backgrounds would be preferable but not required.  The Board meets on demand, approximately ten times per year, generally at 4:00 p.m.

Advisory Commission on International Relationships

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Advisory Commission on International Relationships.

The Commission consists of nine to eleven members. The Commission provides support, coordination and exchange of information for international programs in the community. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Parking Advisory Commission

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Parking Advisory Commission.  Terms are for three years.

The Commission consists of five members, appointed by the City Commission, and an ex-officio member appointed by the Business Improvement District.  Experience or interest in the Great Falls Central Business District is helpful but not necessary.  The Commission advises the City Commission, City Manager, and Planning & Community Development staff on matters related to parking issues within the Downtown Parking District.  Applicants must reside within the City of Great Falls.  Members serve without compensation.   For more information, contact Lee Nellis at 455-8432.
