Serving on a City board or commission is a great way to become involved in local government. The following City boards and commissions have current openings.

Housing Authority Board

The City Commission is seeking applications for citizens to serve on the Great Falls Housing Authority Board of Commissioners.  There is one opening for a non-tenant member for a five-year term and two openings for a tenant member for a two-year term.

The GFHA Board consists of seven commissioners appointed by the City Commission.   The tenant applicant must be a resident of the Housing Authority properties, living on the main site, Austin Hall, Sunrise Courts, Yeoman Tynes, Russell, Sand Hills, Holland Court Apartments or be a tenant participating in the GFHA Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

The Housing Authority provides safe, decent, sanitary, and affordable housing for the community’s low income residents.  They also set policy for operation and management of public housing properties, HUD-Section 8 programs, and other affordable housing programs. The Board also serves as the loan committee for the City’s Housing Rehabilitation Program.

Board meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at noon, for approximately two hours.  For more information, contact Kevin Hager at 453-4311.

Parking Advisory Commission

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Parking Advisory Commission.  Terms are for three years.

The Commission consists of five members, appointed by the City Commission, and an ex-officio member appointed by the Business Improvement District.  Experience or interest in the Great Falls Central Business District is helpful but not necessary.  The Commission advises the City Commission, City Manager, and Planning & Community Development staff on matters related to parking issues within the Downtown Parking District.  Applicants must reside within the City of Great Falls.  Members serve without compensation.   For more information, contact Craig Raymond at 455-8530.

Golf Advisory Board

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Golf Advisory Board for a three-year term beginning April 1, 2016, through March 31, 2019.

The Golf Advisory Board consists of five members appointed by the City Commission to represent: City Men’s Golf Association (1), City Women’s Golf Association (1), Malmstrom Golf Association (1), and non-league golfers (2).  There is currently one opening to represent non-league golfers.

The Board advises the City Commission, City Manager, and Park and Recreation staff regarding operation of the municipal golf courses.  The Golf Advisory Board meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 3:30 p.m.  Contact Joe Petrella at 761-1265 for more information.

Board of Adjustment/Appeals

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Board of Adjustment/Appeals to fill 1 position on the Board for three year term beginning 10/1/2015 ending 9/30/2018.

The Board hears and decides appeals regarding zoning, housing, and building codes and ordinances; hears and decides requests for variances from standards set forth in zoning ordinances; hears and decides all other matters referred to the Board regarding zoning, housing, and building ordinances.

Members must be residents of the City of Great Falls, and must be qualified by experience or training in construction matters. Candidates with architecture or design backgrounds would be preferable but not required.  The Board meets on demand, approximately ten times per year, generally at 4:00 p.m.

Advisory Commission on International Relationships

The City Commission is seeking applications for the Advisory Commission on International Relationships.

The Commission consists of nine to eleven members. The Commission provides support, coordination and exchange of information for international programs in the community. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
